June Bride

"Oh, they say when you marry in June
You are a bride all of your life
And the groom that marries in June
Get's a sweetheart of a wife"
And a what a sweetheart she is!
We are delighted that this blushing bride is now
Brandon's wife and our very own 'daughter-in-love.'

June 9th was a perfect wedding day for Sarah and Brandon.
Clear skies, sunshine and so much love in the air
that it literally caused a bit of a breeze! Some mistakenly
thought it was just windy - but of course, we knew better.

Hey, wait! I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me back up.
The wedding events began with a luncheon before
the ceremony, held at this beautiful historic landmark.

On this very day, 100 years earlier, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building
first opened it's doors, then as Hotel Utah. Imagine how many weddings
have been celebrated here since June 9, 1911!
Sarah and Brandon were only too happy to add their own love story
to the 100 year history and granduer of this legendary building.

After the luncheon the darling bride and groom dashed,
hand in hand, across the street to this sacred historic landmark...
...after all, they had a date with eternity.

Inside the Salt Lake Temple, the sealing room was filled
to the brim with family and loved ones. Poppy officiated.
He shared wise (and grandfatherly) council with
Sarah and Brandon before marrying them for time and eternity.
As they exchanged vows, kneeling across the alter from one another,
Sarah stole everyone's heart with her sheer joy and
'bubbling over' happiness!
For me the ceremony was a sweet mixture of
-tender reflection
(where did that little boy go that knew everything
about dinosaurs and ninja turtles?)
-a grateful heart
(for son's that are priesthood men, a new daughter,
my own sweetheart, and a million other blessings)
-endearing laughter
(compliments of Sarah and Poppy)
and yes,
-a few tears
(filled with love and joy).

When the newlyweds walked out of the temple, officially Mr. and Mrs,
Brandon did a little happy dance he was so delighted...

The heartfelt congratulations offered by so many were
wonderful reminders of the eternal significance
of love, of family, and of friends.

After everyone had expressed their 'best wishes'
the bride and groom were off to the reception...

As you can see, it was like stepping into an
enchanted fairytale garden...

complete with Handsome Prince Charmings...

snuggled up with Pretty Girls...
Beautiful Grand Babies...
A Sleepy Grandson...
Thoughtful (and Artful) Wedding Gifts...
Yummy Food...
Jones Soda...
Gorgeous Wedding Cake...
( Key Lime layer especially de-lish)
Lots of Love and Smiles...
and Happiness All Around!
Yes, we thought it was a Perfect Day...
...with a 'SWEET' ending...
...to a new beginning!
And the best part...
they live happily FOREVER after!

you're busy just living life!
Hopefully, soon!

A New Journey

'The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins With the First Step'

Today we took our first step back into the school year.
With new back packs and lunch bags
these two cute explorer's both looked prepared for the journey.

London will be 'journeying' in the Fourth Grade
along side Mrs. Skidmore and Mrs. Tunnell.
(we call them the dream team)
Jace's new journey will take him down Kleb's 8th grade path.
His last year of Middle School -
which leads to High School. How is that possible?

They woke up this morning excited, enthusiastic and full of smiles.
(Mom not so much - I wasn't quite ready to say 'so long summer').
But as you can see they were very happy!
Jace - 13 years old
London - 9 years old

So I guess if you believe Ralph Waldo Emerson's
"Nothing great was ever accomplished without enthusiasm"
we're in for a fabulous year.
Good Luck Jace and London.
And thank's for sharing your enthusiasm with me -
it was contagious!

Little Red Hen

Do you remember the folk tale of The Little Red Hen?
I've been thinking a lot about her the last few months.
My big kids might remember a note I posted
in my kitchen (years ago) stating

"Please rinse and load your own dishes...
Sincerely,
The Little Red Hen"

Yes, I do admit that at times I have identified with the plight of this
feisty farmyard fowl. However, that particular note has long since
disappeared and that is NOT why I've been pondering poultry as of late.
No, it isn't the Little Red Hen's work ethic I've
been contemplating recently.

I've been wondering more about her bread recipe.

You see, for the last year or so I've been on a mission to find the perfect
whole wheat bread recipe. THE recipe that satisfied my desire
for healthy and my family's desire for delicious!

Unlike The Little Red Hen I didn't plant, harvest, or thresh the wheat.
But I did start pretty much from (chicken) scratch.
My Little Red Hen adventures always began here...with already harvested
whole wheat berries - straight from my food storage mylar bags.

Next, I would mill the wheat and watch it almost magically
become wonderfully warm whole wheat flour.
I can't resist the 'feel' of this newly burst grain.
Handfuls of golden, sun-kissed, powdery goodness.
Then came the endless experimenting.
Day after day our kitchen would fill with the
sweet, hypnotic aroma of homemade bread baking as I
curiously speculated about what Little Red's
favorite ingredients might have been...

Did she prefer...
Red Wheat, White Wheat or Kamut Wheat?
Or a combination of those ?
Eggs or no eggs?
Water or Milk?
Honey or Maple Syrup?
Olive oil or Grapeseed oil?
What about Potato Flakes?
Flaxseed or not? Cold milled flaxseed vs regular?
Lecithin? Liquid or powdered?
Gluten or no?

Well, after months of milling, mixing, adding,
omiting, kneading, rising, baking, and tasting
(ta-da) we finally have the modified and
perfected Kendrick version of what I like to think of as
The Little Red Hen's Whole Wheat Bread!
And along the way I've come to realize a few other things...

"There is no one pathway to delicious bread."

"It doesn't have to look the same every time
or match a picture in a book."

"A bread baker is like that of an improvising
jazz musician or a nurturing gardener."

And my favorite -
"The more you are kneaded, the higher you rise."
(quoting my mom)

Perhaps The Little Red Hen knew that all along!

"It's an honor..."

Catching Jace as part of the procession...
...at Kleb's National Jr. Honor Society Induction Ceremony.

Being one of these 200 smart kids is
just another reason to be proud of this guy!
And not only is he smart...
...I think he's cute too!
But of course, I am his mom.
(Oh and by the way, being his mom - now that's an honor!')
Congratulations Jace!

Lovebirds

You know the jingle...
"Two little lovebirds sittin' in a tree
(or standing on a porch, as the case may be)
K-I-S-S-I-N-G
First comes love...then comes marriage!
Yes, that's right. There is a wedding in the works.
They are thrilled and so are we!
Congratulations Sarah and Brandon on your Valentine engagement!
Cute little lovebirds wouldn't you say?

He certainly is "Alexander the Great"

Although he is a tiny boy he is our very own version
of Alexander the Great!
We are so happy to have another sweet boy
to call us K-Pop and K-Mom

How fun to come for our first peek of 'little Mann'
and as much snuggling with this sweet bundle of love
as we can squeeze in!

New mommy Janie and Daddy Doctor Dave seem to have
settled in just fine to being a beautiful family, wouldn't you say?
You may remember that Alexander the Great of 330 B.C. is known for
having said, "There is nothing impossible for him who will try."
Judging from his first little bit of time on earth I think
the quote should be modified for OUR Alexander the Great to say
"There is nothing impossible for him who will cry."
Just a tiny whimper or two and he gets everyone's attention....
and that is just as it should be! He is one precious and adored little boy!
